62 IDESIGN – Interiors by Kristin is a boutique interior design and build firm. Recently, we sat down with the firm’s Founder, Kristin Hayward who revealed to us the secrets behind her innovative designs. IDESIGN was established by Kristin Hayward who has a passion for design and project management. Her unique, edgy and innovative interior design firm provides a turnkey approach for her clients. IDESIGN provides services from initial concept planning and budgeting, to executing all phases of construction. The firm executes finished projects by drawing on their network of skilled trade professionals, quality suppliers, and custom craftsman. Kristin begins by revealing what qualities make for excellent design and designers. “Good design to me is so much more than simply looking great; it needs to function properly. This I think is key.” “Another other key feature, especially for residential clients, is a space that speaks to them and feels like home. The feeling of home is comprised of individual design choices selected carefully in order to translate into an expression of an individual; being able to translate this for clients makes a good designer. I like to incorporate where I can personal items, whether it is an heirloom piece of furniture, family pictures, or photos of travel. I like to use pieces that are unique to my clients to make their space feel like theirs.” “In order to be a good designer, you must embrace a culture of constant learning. Design is fluid, so it is important to stay informed, stay up-to-date on the current trends, know how to use these trends in a timeless manner, and network with others in the industry. I am always looking to further my knowledge in design and construction, and build my network, by attending events and tradeshows that features artisans, craftsman, industry suppliers, and trades professionals, be it at local events or international events like the Salone Del Mobile in Milan.” IDESIGN was established as a labor of love and Kristin has a strong passion for design and creating beautiful spaces makes her happy. When discussing what sets her designs apart from competitors, Kristin explains that she deeply cares about each client and appreciates that they have opened their home or business to her. “Clients have trusted me with one of their most valuable possessions, which is why I treat every project as though it was my own.” Kristin further explains that her combined credentials with a Diploma in Interior Design and a University Commerce Honours Degree has provided 1808LU14 her with a diverse and unique set of skills and allows her to put an analytical spin on design; Kristin explains that she takes into consideration a cost/ benefit analysis for different design elements. “These skill sets have helped me to achieve the success I have to date, and definitely sets me apart from my competition.” While speaking with Kristin she explains how technology is changing many facets in the industry. “Beyond the most obvious, which is technology in design, such as the emergence of smart homes, technology has also changed the way in which we can translate our ideas for our clients. With 3D rendering for example, we are able to virtually show our clients their finished space prior to commencement of the project; this enhances our mutual understanding and guarantees satisfaction every-time. Technology has also expanded our client base; individuals no longer need to look in their own backyard for their design services. With the vast expansion of marketing through social media and an online presence, business relationships can expand continents.” Speaking of success, IDESIGN was righteously awarded the accolade Best Contemporary Interior Design – Manitoba in LUXlife ’s 2018 Leading Designers Awards. Discussing what it felt to be selected, Kristin is keen to share what made one of her most successful projects to date as well as her thoughts on winning this award. “One of my most successful project to date, was working with a pair of clients who each had very opposite visions for their finished space. Through careful consideration, planning, and attention to detail, I was able to marry these two very different ideas into a final result in which they both absolutely loved. Seeing joy on my clients faces when they see a finished product is really the biggest payoff for me.” “It is truly an honour to be selected for this award by an internationally recognized magazine.
