30 | LUXlife Magazine Best Artisan Jam & Preserve Business 2023 - Eastern England Jenny's Jams of Lincoln was established in 2005 by owner and trained chef Jenny Smith. It’s a “purveyor of perfectly prepared preserves”, including jams, chutneys and marmalade. Everything is handmade using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, with products available to buy throughout the year at events, shows, and farmers’ markets, or via the company’s online shop. Jenny’s Jams of Lincoln was born after Jenny Smith, helped by daughter Elinor, brought a few too many fruits home after strawberry picking one year. Rather than let the delicious goodies go to waste, chef Jenny decided to try her hand at jam making, producing many jars she gave away as presents that year. It wasn’t long then before requests started flooding in for more jars, and different flavours. Jenny began to sell her wares at car boot sales, garnering herself a legion of loyal customers in the process. Soon she found her goods in demand at local shows, farm shops, delicatessens, restaurants, cafes, and hotels. She also regularly fulfils a recurrent order at the Lincolnshire Co-operative Society. Jenny’s Jams now offer a wide range of goods, including unique flavours such as raspberry and prosecco jam, pink grapefruit and cranberry marmalade, and chilli jam. Everything is made without using artificial flavours, colourings or preservatives, and many jams (Strawberry, Raspberry, and Blackcurrant) have won Great Taste Awards. Recent edition Dambusters Beer Chutney, made with Bomber County Ale from the local Tom Woods’ Brewery, won a Gold Star Award. To differentiate her chutney from the norm, Jenny set about careful research to create something new and exciting. She uses her own recipe and a careful combination of selected vegetables and dried apricots, rather than the standard addition of raisins and sultanas. The results were very well received, and Jenny sold a bumper amount of jars of chutney last Christmas. Her chutneys now occupy a prized position amongst her other award-winning jams and preserves.
