Reykjavik’s Selva restaurant welcomes clientele to experience a spicy culinary experience that contrasts wonderfully with the chilly island temperatures outside. The award-winning eatery is home to fabulous food as well as an enticing array of rums to try. Located in the capital city Reykjavik, Selva restaurant in Iceland is a unique Latin influenced food and bar experience. Situated on an attractive corner plot, Laugavegur 12, the restaurant can be spotted by its attractive orange window canopies. The carefully chosen décor colours are suggestive of the fiery Latin spirit the restaurant is dedicated to. Inside, earthy tones are mixed with splashes of turquoise for its bar stools, rustic leather banquette seating and wooden tables and chairs. The partition ceiling with geometric designs, and the traditional wooden flooring is suggestive of salsa dancing halls. Once seated, customers are in for a treat. Selva offers immensely popular dishes such as grilled prawns on skewers, deep fried homemade crescents, crispy deep-fried halloumi cheese sticks wrapped in dough, and fresh ceviche with cod and trout. Wednesdays at Selva is Taco Day. It offers three different types of tacos for a bargain set price. Customers can enjoy Taco de flor de calamar with Chicharon squid, smoked tamarindo sauce and pebre sauce. The second choice is Caribbean tacos with pork diced with fruit, pineapple pico de gallo, and rocoto sauce. Alternatively, the third option on offer is Mexican Tinga taco with Tinga lamb chops and sweet pickled onions. Selva offers take-away platters every single day. These plates include delicious delicacies such as deep-fried homemade crescents filled with seasoned beef and hard-boiled egg, or giant prawns with parmesan, onion, paprika and havanero oil. Also available to take away is crispy deep-fried halloumi cheese sticks, wrapped in dough, with two different sauces to accompany. Selva is mindful of its vegan clientele too. A vegan Brunch Latino is available every weekend between 12pm-3pm. For this, customers are treated to chilaquiles with cheese and green sauce, tamales stuffed with vegetables and salsa verde, vegan barbecue sausages and arepitas corn dough cookies. There’s also pinto bean salad, fruit smoothies, deep fried plantain, corn on the cob, and grilled tomato with Pebre Chileno sauce on the menu. Buying a la carte, vegans are also well catered for with options such as quesadillas and padron peppers tacos available as vegan options, as well as several vegan side dishes. Alongside the delicious food, Selva also offers customers a tempting assortment of cocktails, many with the obligatory Latin American vibe. The Paloma Mezcal features mescal, grapefruit syrup, lime, and grapefruit soda. The classic Pina Colada has dark rum, coco cream, pineapple juice, lime, syrup and cinnamon. Equally tempting aperitifs include the Margarita Rica, Mojito Clasico, and the Latin Pornstar Martini. Enough to convince many a weary traveller to linger. The Southern atmosphere is enhanced for visitors by Selva’s displays featuring maracas and bongo drums.
