We take a closer look behind the scenes of the little bakery and discover that it offers so much more than a bite to eat. Sara’s Petite Cuisine Cafe & Patisserie of the Year 2021- Exeter & Pastry Baking SME of the Year - England Feb21447 Award-winning patisserie, Sara’s Petite Cuisine, is nestled in the heart of Topsham, Exeter. Founded in 2017 by professional pastry chef, Sara Felix, the small yet mighty bakery has won the hearts of locals in just three years. Born in Portugal and raised in Plymouth, Sara trained as pastry chef at Ashburton Bakery School, then honed her craft at Peggy Porschen Academy in London, where she completed a diploma in decorating techniques before spending a year at Exeter’s Exploding Bakery, prior to setting up on her own. Four years later, Sara grew the bakery by adding a Portuguese deli to her portfolio. At Sara’s Petite Cuisine, it’s clear to see – and taste – the passion and dedication in every delightful creation. From sweet, indulgent pastries, to light lunches, to beautifully decorated cakes, all prepared fresh each morning, there’s something for every sweet- toothed treat seeker. As well as offering her patrons somewhere to sit and eat, with tables both inside and latterly, due to Covid-19 restrictions, outside too, Sara also provides fancy celebratory cakes to the local and surrounding areas. It’s not all about desserts either – Sara serves a delectable range of teas and coffees to accompany her signature bakes, including the famous Camelo Coffees, a brand created in 1937 at the time of the Spanish Civil War and today served as a nod to Sara’s Mediterranean heritage. Produced in Campo Maior, Portugal, with the tradition, experience and art of the renowned roasters of Grupo Nabeiro, Camelo Coffees is a human-faced brand that has built relationships based on learning and trust, reflecting Sara’s own ethos and passion. For Sara, it is so much more than simply another cup of ‘Joe’. The vibe at the bijou café is cosy and inviting… think French chic with floral designs in pretty pastel shades adorning the walls and tables and you are half-way there. Team this with images of Breton-print shirt-clad gents and stylish ladies enjoying handmade croissant breakfasts, and you’ve got it! The square-paned bakery window is regularly changing to reflect the season or time of year too, with displays paying homage to Mother’s Day, Valentine’s and other occasions that call for a celebration. Just three years on from the initial opening of the café and bakery, Sara’s Petite Cuisine has been awarded the prestigious accolade of Café & Patisserie of the Year 2021 for Exeter, as well as the title of Pastry Baking SME of the Year for England. These are just two more accomplishments to add to Sara’s already growing list and are testament to the hard work and commitment that Sara and her passionate team puts into the bakery. Quite simply, for a relaxing escape and a step-back-in-time from the fast-paced world of technology and digitalisation, Sara’s Petite Cuisine provides the ideal setting to while away the hours with a good friend over coffee and cake.
