Astwood. Over the next few years, the young man worked hard and gained a position of trust within the business. When he was able to purchase the store in 1904, he decided to change its name to E.M. Astwood, representing the start of a new era. Almost three decades later, Mr. Astwood made the strategic decision to partner with a fellow businessman to further propel the business forwards. Having served in the First World War in Bermuda, Mr. R. M. Dickinson moved to the United States to further his education as an optometrist. He went on to own and operate an optical business in Denver, Colorado. When he returned to Bermuda in 1932, Mr. Dickinson established a partnership with Mr. Astwood, which led to the birth of Astwood Dickinson as it is known today. In 1956, Mr. Thomas Dickinson, son of Mr. R.M. Dickinson, joined the company after studying in the United States. He went on to become President and Managing Director of Astwood Dickinson, a position that he held until his retirement in 2005. Today, Astwood Dickinson is owned and operated by Bregitta and James Boyce, whose family has been involved with the business for over three decades. Since 2014, James has been the company’s CEO, leading it through significant transformation. In 2015, he moved the business from the original store to a new location, aiming to keep up with the times and achieve further brand growth in a flourishing industry.
