The 4-star Accra City Hotel is managed by his General Manager, Roman Krabel and threw its doors open to the public for the very first time in September 1988. Recently, we caught up with Roman to discover more about the fine establishment.
Established in 1988, Accra City Hotel has 196 fully furnished guest rooms of varying sizes with good quality interiors, complimentary mini-bar and free international calls to selected Countries is located on Barnes Road in the Business district of the Ghanaian Capital. The property is 15 minutes away from the Kotoka International Airport. Accra City Hotel has facilities which every guest is looking for. The hotel offers sophisticated dining experience with its award winning Fihankra Restaurant, Lounge Bar and 24-hour Room Service offers an extensive menu. Every month, Accra City Hotel provides a special Food & Beverage promotion with tempting dishes of commendable prices.
The Accra City Hotel is considered to be one of the best Hotels in Ghana. Roman begins by revealing the secret behind their remarkable success.
“Here at the Accra City Hotel, we provide something different. It is not only the central location in the heart of Accra, or the national art pieces surrounding our guests, or the carefully selected dishes and cocktails we serve, but also our special culture and service approach to the guests.
“People have realised that we have done something quite unique. I talk to universities, schools and major companies about taking service to the next level, about what other dimensions and elements you can use to make your service stand out. What I believe is that informality is the future of service. You do not stop being highly skilled, highly professional, but you take away all the grades, use a different language, different body language, different areas you meet people in. We designed Accra City Hotel in the essence of informality. Guests spend a lot of time surrounded by formality, especially in the business segment.
When they come to our property, the thing they really appreciate is that we specialise in informality. As soon as you come into the Hotel, it is about you. We are trying to break down those barriers as fast as possible to find out exactly what you want, how you function and how we can make your stay optimal. We have a very strong culture of serviceminded people who understand guests needs, the philosophy of Accra City Hotel.”
When discussing the internal culture at the Accra City Hotel, Roman is keen to highlight how he ensures that each member of the team is aware of the establishment’s aim and behaves accordingly.
“To be a hotel-restaurant with a heart you have to manage the pulse (team). Creating a happy motivated and knowledgeable team by effective management, delivering our ‘Yes I Can’ philosophy. The results are achieved through recruiting people with positive attitude, ensuring that have the training and knowledge to perform, supporting opportunities of development and growth through managers who are empowered with 100% ownership for the business and team.”
Looking ahead to what the future holds for the firm, Roman signs off by revealing the exciting plans which lie in the pipeline for Accra City Hotel following their recent success as LUXlife’s Luxury Dining Experience of the Year – Ghana.
“Moving forward, we are planning a major renovation and extension of the property, actually. In the modern wing of the hotel we have the sloping front with a deluxe restaurant and modern Conference and Banquet rooms. We will hopefully complete that next year. The hotel is actually 30 years old and was the first 4-star hotel in the late 80s which has developed a lot since. Now with new hotels coming, it’s important to update and build upon what we have.”
