Edgar House is an elegant riverside residence, an outstanding and stylish holiday home, right in the heart of the city. Its elevated views over the River Dee from its enviable location, high above the Roman sandstone walls which circle the city, must be among Chester’s finest.

Edgar House

Having undergone a full scheme of refurbishment to mark its new chapter as an exclusive holiday home, this handsome Regency Villa can accommodate up to sixteen guests. Its size, city centre location and classic contemporary interior styling, make it the ideal gathering place for groups of close friends and family. The views from here, across the River Dee, the Old Dee Bridge, and its tidal weir, create a stunning backdrop for your stay.

Edgar House enjoys its own walled garden and river view terrace, once described by travel writer, Alistair Sawday, as ‘Chester’s equivalent to the Royal Box’. Watching the world go by, both on the river itself and along the promenade below is an enjoyable pastime from this vantage point. The terrace has outdoor dining with comfortable seating, and blankets are provided for guests to enjoy cooler days and evenings.

This nineteenth-century house, with its generously proportioned rooms and high ceilings, is rich in original features and period detailing. These are complemented by sophisticated schemes, which blend traditional elegance with contemporary, bold interior design.

There are seven bedrooms in total, each individually styled, with décor themes such as ‘Horse’, after the city’s legendary racecourse; ‘Zoo’, Chester Zoo is one of the best in the world; the ‘Copper Suite’, with its glorious deep copper bathtub, and ‘Blue’, all inspired by the nature and cultural heritage of the local region. The ‘Copper Suite’, enjoys its own living room, equipped with a sofa bed, which can be used to accommodate younger guests, as an interconnecting family room.

The light-filled, spacious interiors are thoughtfully designed for practicality as well as their good looks and include a sumptuously furnished living room with shuttered windows overlooking the river, a classic-contemporary dining room with modern décor sparkling beneath a crystal chandelier; a well-equipped and convivial open-plan kitchen, which can switch effortlessly from preparing home-cooked ‘kitchen table’ suppers, to more elaborate menus, created by a personal, ‘in-house’ Chef.

The local wine merchant or cheese merchant can also be booked for an ‘in-house’ wine and/ or cheese tasting, and wines can be pre-ordered to ensure that the cellar is suitably well-stocked. These extra services are optional and can be arranged courtesy of the concierge team.

Families will love the media/cinema room with its BT/Sky Sports and internet connection, which features a large wall-mounted screen and surround sound experience; there is also a games room, highlights here include air hockey, table football, darts and wi-fi jukebox, for fun and games to be had.
