As we prepare to celebrate the start of the new year, LUXlife reflected on the extraordinary establishments we have featured over the last twelve months. One such establishment is Dryburgh Abbey Hotel, a magnificent country house by the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders. Recently, we recognised Dryburgh as the ‘Most Outstanding Country House Hotel in the UK’ in our celebratory 2018 End of Year Feature. Following on from this well-deserved accolade, we profiled the hotel to find out how they have delivered award-winning hospitality to their guests.

Sat proudly in its own ten-acre estate on the banks of the River Tweed, Dryburgh Abbey Hotel makes an astonishing first impression. With its turreted terracotta façade and traditional interior, Dryburgh invites guests to relax and unwind in a truly welcoming setting. Here luxury is of the comfortable variety, reflected in its soft tweeds, and warm colour palette. High ceilings, four poster beds, and sweeping panoramas complete the idyll.

It’s a setting that excels in the winter, as one can imagine the emerald fields turned to startling white, a fire crackling away in a hearth. Adding to the magic are the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey, nestled just a stone’s throw away from the main house. A tourist attraction is its own right, Sir Walter Scott and Douglas Haig are buried within the abbey’s grounds, offering an extra incentive to explore and adventure beyond the hotel’s walls. Moreover, the Scottish Borders is an area rich in history, from its ties to high quality textile production to its role hosting the oldest horse riding festival in the world.

In much the same vein, Dryburgh offers a number of leisure options from popular walking trails and fantastic fishing spots to cycling routes and an indoor heated pool and sauna. However, inside the hotel, guests are sure to find something to enjoy. From the wingback armchairs, to the tartan upholstery, Dryburgh invites guests to sit back and enjoy the classic Scottish décor.

Dryburgh Abbey Hotel was selected for the LUXlife End of Year feature for their ability to do what they do well. From the cosy interior, to the picturesque surroundings, Dryburgh offers a unique taste of luxury that few can match –a feeling of home, a feeling of comfort.
