Instagram has become a main source of inspiration for many things in our lives – wedding, birthdays, fashion and of course, travel. We analysed which destinations had received the most likes, comments and hashtags and then compiled a list of the world’s top travel destinations and calculated how much a nights stay will cost you in each location if staying in an Airbnb. The following is a list of some of the top places for 2019.

12. Sa Pa Rice Fields, Vietnam

Rice fields can be found in many places of South East Asia, but none are more famous than the Sa Pa Rice Fields in north-west Vietnam. Visit June – July to enjoy full grown cascading green rice fields or September and October when autumn ends and the fields ripen and turn golden. Tagged over 400 times on Instagram, it’s not often utilised enough in travel feeds, so getting a snap here could be a hidden gem. An average Airnnb near the fields will cost an affordable £24 a night.

11. Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

The capital city of Brazil has always been a favourite amongst travellers visiting South America, but it was given an extra boost after the 2016 Olympics truly put the eyes and ears of the world on this colourful metropolis. Popular sites include the famous Christ the Redeemer statue which towers over the city, and the Boulevard Olimpico which currently holds the record for the biggest mural in the world and was finished in an astonishing 40 days! The average price for an Airbnb is £75 per night, and it is easily one of the busiest spots on this list

10. Lapland, Finland

If you prefer colder destinations, Lapland in Finland offers cozy wood cabins, igloos and glass dome huts, with an average price of £97.00 for a nights stay. The winter wonderland has been hashtagged over 1,000,000 times, which isn’t surprising as everyone knows how popular this location is. Enjoy the slopes during the day and marvel at the Aurora Borealis at night for a chilly getawa

9. Whitsunday Islands, Australia

Off the central coast of Queensland, Australia, you’ll find 74 islands known as The Whitsunday Islands. Clear blue waters and spotless white beaches draw in the crowds but with an average price tag of £275 a night for an Airbnb, it’s the most expensive location on our list

Cartagena is a tourist hotspot thanks to its colourful streets, historical buildings and bountiful locations to take Insta-perfect photos. With over 8,900,000 posts on it’s hashtag on Instagram, there’s a lot of people visiting, due to this, the average nights stay in this magnificent city is around £83

7. The Bamboo Forest, Kyoto, Japan

Japan’s famous Bamboo Forest has been tagged over 217,000 times. The towering lush green forest is lined with several pathways for tourists and has become one of Japan’s most popular sites. Even getting here at dawn won’t guarantee you’ll escape the crowds of photographers. You can expect to pay on average £28 a night for an Airbnb in Kyoto, but remember, Japanese rooms are often small

6. Rome, Italy.

With over 21,500,000 pictures tagged, Rome is one of the most popular cities in Europe. History lovers can enjoy ancient sites such as The Colosseum and The Roman Forum, while foodies can enjoy sweet gelato and the world’s best Pizza. An Airnnb in Rome averages at around £48.00 a night, when compared to places like Gili T, it seems quite affordable considering it’s on the continent.

5. Gili Trawangan, Bali, Indonesia

The Gili’s are a group of Indonesian Islands situated on the East of Bali. They are made up of Gili Memo, Gili Air and the most popular and largest of the three; Gili Trawangan. Often referred to as the party island, you’ll find plenty of fabulous beach bars where you can watch the sunset here. The average Airbnb price here is around £46 per night, a small price to pay for stunning views and an amazing social life

Angelic white villas topped with deep blue domes; it can only be Santorini. With 4,900,00 pictures tagged with these hashtags, it is almost instantly recognisable. For £154.00 a night, you too can enjoy seaside villas and incredible views as far as the eye can see. It’s certainly not cheap, but compared to other locations it draws in much larger Instagram engagement.

3. Torres del Paine National Park , Chile

Made up of green valleys, mountains, lakes and icy glaciers, Torres del Paine National Park  in Chile is home to an array of wildlife including foxes, pumas and various species of birds. The average price of a night here is £50 and with only 419,000 tags, it may be popular, but won’t be completely overrun by other tourists

2. Salar De Uyuni, Bolivia

Located in the southwest of Bolivia, Salar De Uyuni is the world’s largest salt flat, measuring at an astonishing 10,582 square kilometres (4,086 sq mi). A thin layer of rain transforms the salt plane into the world’s largest mirror. Despite the distance you may have to travel to get there, Bolivia is one of the most affordable locations on the list to visit with the average Airbnb costing just £22 per night

Bora Bora is part of the French Polynesian Islands located in the South Pacific Ocean. Staying in the luxurious sea bungalows will set you back around £119 a night, but it will be worth it for the great Instagram pictures. The luxurious islands have been tagged on Instagram over 1,200,000 times and it frequently features on social media roundups and videos.
