Dulhan Hair & Makeup Artist - the United Kingdom
My journey as a Hair & Makeup Artist all started when I was 16 years old and I discovered the magic of eyeliner! I was raised with 2 older brothers, so I was always a bit of a Tomboy; therefore makeup was all new to me, but it felt good ! The eyeliner slowly started to get heavier and heavier and before I knew it I was going through a ‘goth’ phase, as it was known.
Putting that makeup on made me feel good and gave me so much confidence, that I then started to wear more makeup on a daily basis. Foundation was a must to make my skin more radiant! My mum wouldn’t like it but I think she knew deep down why I was wearing it and how it made me feel.
A few years went by and I started to gain more confidence within myself and at the age of 22 I met the love of my life. I got married at 23 to my best friend, who always encouraged me to do whatever I wanted in life and with his support and also of my in-laws I started to study Beauty at college (evening course), whilst also working a full time telecommunications day job. To manage my time I began practicing hair and Makeup in my own time, free days, weekends and some evenings when I wasn’t studying. I landed a few jobs here and there through word of mouth, but nothing big scale or major – these small jobs helped me to learn so much and practice all that I was learning at my evening classes in college.
I had my first son when I was 25 years old and it gave me the strength to want to do Hair and Makeup more- solely so I could work my own hours and have quality time with him. During my first pregnancy I had a very traumatic birth, doctors said they nearly lost me in the delivery room, this near death experience gave me so much strength, motivation and determination to succeed in becoming a Professional Hair & Makeup artist; just so I could be with my son and my family, I began to cherish the concept of time and spending that with my loved ones.
I went to London to train with a leading Makeup Artist, who was one of the most successful MUA’s in the Asian wedding industry at the time. She saw so much potential in me and mentored me ever step or the way, I am still so thankful to her as she gave me my first ‘break’ into the industry and asked me to join her academy. From that moment my career path changed forever and all for the better.
16 years on from that career changing moment I am now self employed and I’m still doing what I love each and every day. I feel blessed that with the support of my family and friends I have achieved so much, the support and love I have from my husband, boys and in laws has been amazing and I’m so grateful and feel truly blessed in life to be where I am today. I am who I am because of their support and understanding and my the upbringing from my parents… all of this pushes me to keep going and going, to continue to live life to the fullest doing what I truly love with those I love around me.
Receiving such positive and grateful messages from my clients and just to see their faces when I get them glam for their events, it’s absolutely priceless for me…. Makeup has always given me strength and I’m honoured to then give someone else that feeling! Everyone’s beautiful I just enhance their beauty x
