2018 Designer Awards

LUX - 2018 Designer Awards 7 Established in 2002, Scott Oldner Lighting Design creates unique visual environments in architecture and entertainment spaces. With offices in Dallas and Austin, the firm is able to serve a myriad of clients across Texas and beyond, supporting them to turn their dreams into reality. Among the most prestigious projects that the company has undertaken since inception are the KPMG Tower in downtown Dallas, which has many great elements in the lobby and exterior. The RGB exterior fixtures are being fed by a video server and he develops most of the content on the building by compositing videos in Final Cut Pro. Additionally, the firm has worked with Phoenix Children’s Hospital on what is probably its most renowned project to date; using color interior and exterior lighting, the firm was able to create a unique space with a visually stunning and moving atmosphere, that flows from inside to outside. The concept was “The Desert Blooms” and uses color to energize the kids and take their minds away from the health reasons that brought them there. Scott, who alongside his role in the company is also Professor of Lighting for the Master Architecture program at the University of Texas, discusses the firm’s approach in more detail and highlights how the Scott Oldner Lighting Design LLC offers a wide range of creative lighting solutions across a range of industries including hospitality, commercial and residential. We invited Scott himself to tell us more about the firm and the projects it undertakes. company draws on his own experience to create truly exceptional projects. “Here at Scott Oldner Lighting Design, we undertake a range of projects in the architectural lighting space, with most of our current work coming from hospitality, multi-family hi-rise, single family residential and commercial exteriors. We enjoy using color in our exteriors and working color into our interior lighting designs. My musician background seeps into our designs in the form of theatrical fixtures and the use of color. “Fundamentally, our mission is to impact emotions. We have a rock and roll corporate culture, “funky and cool” is one of our core value statements. It helps to orient the design minds to finding new ways to use fixtures and be serious but not take ourselves too seriously and lose the fun aspect of why we are here.” As many of the firm’s projects come to a close, Scott and his team look to the future. Scott is invigorated by Scott Oldner Lighting Design’s success and believes that there is much more still to come. “Recently we undertook our latest hi-rise multi-family, which is coming on line soon, Confluence Park, Denver, a project which featured an exterior LED RGB video display. It’s a public art display celebrating water and how the confluence of water brings people together, both being a fundamental for living. Also finishing is the Food Hall, Haywire Restaurant and Box Garden, a beer garden surrounded by railroad car boxes. Our retail/multi-use complex projects are also coming to fruition, as our Preston Hollow Village Phase I is complete with RGB fixtures that we made dance to Christmas music during the season and the Irving Music Factory, now branded the Toyota Music Factory (TMF), is almost complete. TMF has a shed concert amphitheatre, restaurants, night clubs, movie theatre and commercial office building all surrounding a plaza with outdoor stage. “All of these projects have been extremely enjoyable to work on, and moving forward we are excited to undertake even more projects. To help us achieve this we are looking to grow and are currently seeking additional designers to support the current team. Our Austin experience (3 year old branch) has proven fruitful and we are looking to replicate this in other markets, such as LA, Denver, and even London, where we have connections and plan to establish an office. These exciting developments will allow our firm to build upon the achievements it has made over the past 16 years.” Commercial Lighting Designer of the Year – Texas & LUX Excellence Award for Hospitality Lighting Company: Scott Oldner Lighting Design LLC Contact: Scott Oldner Address: 5331 E.
