Page 6 www.lux-review.com LUXlife Nautical Tourism Awards 2022 Operating since 1999, Port Denarau Marina is recognised nationally and internationally as Fiji’s leading international marina, and it has been inducted into the Marina Industries Association Hall of Fame as an International Marina. It provides berthing for cruising yachting tourists and is the only superyacht marina in the country, and it is a port of entry. Denarau Island, with its integrated marina and boatyard, lies on the western side of Nadi Bay, about 15nm south of Lautoka. This is the main tourism hub for Nadi with a busy ferry terminal, shopping centre, several resorts, a water park, and a golf course within walking distance of the marina. Port Denarau Marina is ideally positioned to provide a stopover for rest, recreation, and provisioning during cruising of the Fijian Islands and is within 15 minutes of Fiji’s international airport by car. Port Denarau Marina offers a personalised service to all visiting yachts and assists in immigration, customs, and crew changes. It also provides provisioning services, gas bottle refills, and concierge services. Considering that no two customers are the same, its reservations staff have the autonomy to satisfy customers’ specific needs and wants. The marina team has a passion for boats and boating, and they are able to provide the advice customers need, whether it’s about planning a passage, where to go, or technical or maintenance needs. The marina’s core values have remained the same since its establishment. It wants its employees to be active, enthusiastic team members, and that’s just what they are. Its management team takes personal responsibility for the wellbeing of all their people, with CEO, Cynthia Rasch saying, “As the marina grows, so should the individual.” Port Denarau Marina Limited is a diverse and integrated berthing facility for the maritime tourism market in Fiji. A tourism hub between the outer islands of Yasawas and Mamanucas and the main island of Viti Levu, it contributes significantly to tourism and the livelihoods of many dependent on the maritime industry. That is why we continue to focus on the wellbeing and development of our employees and organisation. We maintain quality customer service through both training and empowerment of our staff. “The marina is known to be a happy place to work by our employees, and the employees are proud to be working in the marina because they believe that hard work is rewarded, and we don’t just work hard but play hard as well. All our successes and accomplishments are celebrated and employees are acknowledged for their contributions.” Tourists visit Port Denarau Marina to experience Fiji’s beautiful marine environment. Marinas and boating are vulnerable to the effects of climate change, particularly sea level rise and the increased frequency of extreme weather events. Boating and fishing require a pristine marine environment for their ongoing enjoyment. For this reason, the protection of this environment is constantly at the forefront of the marina’s decision making process. Educating the commercial operators on sustainability is a challenge but one that Port Denarau Marina is committed to. Creating and maintaining a sustainable marina remains a top priority for the team because it is critical to the successful execution of its strategy and the longterm performance of the company. In partnership with Sunergise out of NZ, Port Denarau Marina has installed the largest solar power plant marina installation in the Pacific. It has installed a 620-panel system, generating 800kWh of power per day or 140 amps of three-phase which powers the workshops as well as a second 400-panel system on the passenger terminal which covers all its air conditioning needs for the building in addition to a 300-panel system installed on the Yacht Club. It is an accredited Clean Marina, too, with Fish Friendly status administered through the Marina Industries Association since 2017 with a three-yearly renewal subject to an independent audit. It understands that it has a responsibility to protect the environment with its operating practices as well as to promote environmentally sustainable boating and fishing. Ultimately, the financial year 2022 was remarkable for Port Denarau Marina. It anticipates that 2023 will be the year for continued recovery and progress, bringing it closer to post-COVID-19 stability. While managing the near-term challenges of the pandemic and the uncertain global environment, the marina has also remained focused on its long-term strategy, namely, to optimise and grow its current offerings, and is revisiting its capital projects in terms of master planning and infrastructure upgrades that were suspended. It is expecting to expand its superyacht capabilities for Q2 of 2023! Company: Port Denarau Marina Contact: Cynthia Rasch Email: [email protected] Website: www.denaraumarina.com
