Its modern interior is designed to simulate a tropical vacation to create an atmosphere of total relaxation, and this is enhanced by its music playlist made up of 70% African diaspora folk soul, 20% hip hop soul, and 10% afro reggae soul. Seafood is the focal point of the Mawimbi kitchen, with the aroma in the air being undeniably delicious. The preparation is a fine balance between craftmanship and art, with its chefs endeavouring to ferry each guest’s pallet through an experiential wave. It’s unmistakably Mawimbi. Notably, the chefs love fish so much they decided to prepare them in a different way. The Fish Carpaccio Duo is thinly sliced smoked sailfish and blue marlin topped with creams, crisps, and fresh rucola cherry tomato salad. With the restaurant and café open daily between 6am and 11pm, guests can tuck into a mouth-watering dish any time of the day. They could start the day on a high note by opting for the apple and orange crepe for breakfast, served with a sweet drizzle from the fruits’ own syrups, a pinch of sweet spices, and a scoop of house-made gelato of the diner’s choice (vanilla is recommended). It’s a dish with an emotional story behind it that stems from the chef’s own childhood, inspired by their grandpa’s garden where the harvesting of apples and oranges every Saturday morning became a family tradition. There is also the deluxe salmon benedict which consists of two poached eggs, smoked salmon, tartar sauce, hollandaise espuma, and sourdough toast, with leeks on top. Then Mawimbi offers an extensive variety of freshly baked breads, too, which are the perfect breakfast companion. For lunch, the ahi poke bowl will hit the spot. Highly popular with guests, it offers the freshest tuna fish with a mouth-watering blend of flavours and textures. The Indian Ocean tuna marinated in ponzu, the housemade kimchi to bring the kick, the crispness of the veggies, and the gohan rice will no doubt make this dish a firm favourite. The signature fish tacos make the perfect lunch, as well, bringing a blend of flavours that can’t disappoint. Three chia and maize tortillas are filled with poached tuna mixed with umami ingredients, pickled veggies, avocado cream, soyannaise, coriander, and crunchy leaks. It’s a delightful and healthy dish to feed the soul. Perhaps for dinner, the classic glazed pork ribs would tickle guests’ fancy. Slow cooked, tender, and full of flavour, the pork ribs are dipped in the house sesame BBQ, and served alongside roasted corn on the cobs and wasabi coleslaw. Hoisin drumsticks are also an option, infused overnight with lemongrass ginger, then bacon wrapped and glazed in a sweet hoisin sauce, and Josper grilled for that final kick. Every bite brings an explosion of flavour. Finally, dessert might consist of the non-baked light and silky cheesecake with hazelnut biscuit base, passionfruit coulis and pearls, served with fresh red berries and mint leaves. There is also the dreamy chocolate fondant made of chocolate souffle cake and almond crumble with roasted pistachio gelato. Meanwhile, Mawimbi even has a pool where guests can take a cooling dip, bask in the sun, and dine by the water.
