Page 28 LUX Restaurant & Bar Awards 2018 Established in 2014 by mother and daughter team Judith Farquharson and Emma Mowbray, over the years Cafe MyPlace has flourished. Initially there were only two staff but now the workforce has grown to five loyal members of staff, all of whom live locally and work to support the local community. The café is open from 10-3 Monday to Friday and can seat 60 people. The cafe is often used at weekends and evenings as a venue for parties and events. As such, the eatery’s customer base is very diverse from Mum’s with young children to older people to groups and everyone in between. To ensure that every visitor has an enjoyable experience and is inspired to return, the café prides itself on customer service and offering a multi-sensory experience for customers; gentle background music, warm and welcoming environment, a range of seating types and a person-centred service. Customers can see coffee beans being ground, hot drinks been made, food being prepared and even dishes being washed. Additionally, all of the staff have Food Safety Certificates at level 2 or above, and they continually undertake in-house training to remind staff of the establishment’s quality standards, policies and procedures and the need to provide excellent customer service. With regards to the future, Café MyPlace is constantly monitoring local changes and dynamics so that it can adapt and develop its services to meet the needs of its valued clientele, who are at the heart of this quirky eatery. Café MyPlace is a unique, vintage style café located in the centre of Killingworth, North Tyneside.
