Travel & Tourism Awards 2020

www.lux-review.com Page 31 The Whey Aye will be the tallest wheel in the UK and Europe at 140m tall. With 60 cabins carrying a maximum of eight people, all seated, WWC believes the experience will be more intimate, more inclusive and therefore more memorable than other giant observation experiences. Giant Fun will be a dedicated family entertainment centre filled with family oriented experiences, including trampolines, a toddler play area, a skywalk, E-sports, and several cafés, as well as a state-of-the-art virtual golf club with a member’s bar. A permanently covered giant sports deck atop the building will house affordable sports facilities such five- a-side pitches, tennis courts and cricket nets available for public hire. By building this development, WWC will be creating 800+ full and part-time jobs when fully operational. These new jobs are forecast to deliver £108M in new salaried and disposable income over a 20-year period, which could help to redress some economic imbalances currently visible in both the Byker and Walker communities. In addition to this, WWC is also working with a number of education providers and trusts, such as Building Futures East, to deliver bespoke programmes and professional qualification opportunities in engineering, hospitality, F&B and leisure management, operations and maintenance. The expected increase in inward tourism spend will affect the entire City and beyond with the expectation being that local businesses and residents will benefit greatly. The development will not just be an iconic landmark, but will also become a hub for tourism information, driving attendance and revenue to other attractions and businesses in the Ouseburn area and beyond. “Ultimately, we create experiences and wrap them in buildings” is not just a tagline used by the company, but also the philosophy that drives it. The end-user experience has been considered in the development of every aspect of design, attraction manufacture, organisational development, operations planning and marketing plans.
