NEWS Experience authentic Vietnamese fitness at The Anam with new vovinam martial arts offering for all the family. Five-star Vietnamese beach resort, The Anam, is delighted to launch in-resort vovinam classes for active guests looking to participate in a slice of traditional Vietnamese culture. Based on the concept of Yin (negative) and Yang (positive) in ancient Asian culture, vovinam is the largest and most developed Vietnamese martial arts with more than 60 schools across the world. Tailored to all fitness levels, guests of all ages and abilities can take part in the traditional fitness offering which aims to align both body and mind through the art of self-defence. The classes will be led by resident vovinam master, Huynh Trong Nghia and will incorporate a range of attack and defence techniques that allow the participant to focus on the present moment. The small agile movements associated with the art will also include special hand and elbow techniques, kicks, foot sweeps, throws and wrestling moves. Available to book now, the new sessions will take place each Monday and Wednesday from 4.30pm – 5.30pm and Friday from 4.30pm – 5pm for children, on the resort’s expansive lawn which offers views of the surrounding jungle-clad mountains and 300 metres of golden beach and crystal blue sea. Guests will be in safe hands with Vietnamese born Huynh Trong Nghia, who has practiced and taught the principals of vovinam for 20 years. Huynh has been awarded a silver medal in Vietnam’s Central Coast vovinam championships in 2017. To complement the classes, the team can also arrange for yoga and meditation sessions with the resort’s resident yogi, Umesh. Those looking to cleanse their body both inside and out will find plenty of healthy dishes on offer in the world-class restaurants, including light and zesty traditional Vietnamese cuisine made with fresh fish and vegetables, juices, smoothies and cleansing teas. The Anam comprises of three swimming pools, three restaurants, three bars and a 300-metre stretch of private beachfront set on what is often cited as Vietnam’s most beautiful beach. Vovinam is the latest initiative from the Cam Ranh property which allows guests to uncover and experience authentic Vietnamese culture, with recent offerings including its ‘Chocolate Discovery Tour’ and ‘Artists-in-Residence’ evenings, where guests are encouraged to mingle with local artists, discovering each creative’s story, as well as their experience of living and working in Vietnam and the inspiration behind each masterpiece.
